Year 4 Badminton Festival
The inaugural Year 4 Badminton Festival for the Bromley Borough was hosted by Bishop Justus School on November 29th. The event was a huge success with particular thanks to the support of 16 Young Sports Leaders from local secondary schools who had recently completed their Badminton Junior Helper Award. They were largely responsible for the organisation of the Festival, with the assistance of Alex Easton, a local badminton coach and course tutor.
Nine schools attended the Festival, a total of 75 children from year 4 across the Borough, most of whom had little or no prior experience in Badminton. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities provided which were aimed at teaching them basic skills of badminton. There was an opportunity to accumulate team points at each activity to determine an overall ‘winner’, although the focus was really on fun and enjoyment. Pickhurst Junior School were eventual winners, narrowly defeating Southborough Primary by just 2 points. Balgowan Primary School were third.
The Young Leaders were a credit to their schools, and the feedback from teachers, parents and the students who took part indicates that next year will be even bigger and better!
