Basketball Festival for Years 5 and 6

This years Basketball festival held at Kelsey Park Sports College on February 14th was a most enjoyable experience for both players and spectators alike. 11 schools brought 24 teams along and this raised the standard of play to new levels. After some very hard fought group games 8 schools progressed to the knockout stage.

The players enjoyed a lunch break between the group and knockout stages and were then taken through some very light drills by the Kelsey Park Basketball leaders. Once the knockout stages got going the excitement in the sports hall intensified. The semi finals saw 2 teams form Wickham Common and a team each from Worsley Bridge and Balgowan competing for a place in the final. As it turns out Wickham Common 1 played Balgowan 1 in the final with Wickham Common the eventual winners. Wickham Common completed a very happy day for them by taking the bronze medal after a close third/fourth place play off with Worsley Bridge.

Thanks must go to  Kelsey Park Sports College for the use of their sports hall for the whole day. Steve Richardson (Head of PE) at Kelsey Park for his efforts throughout the day alongside the Basketball Leaders from Kelsey Park who officiated with great skill and control.

The players, parents and teachers must take great credit for they contributed most to what was a great sucess with all games being played in a superb spirit and a great emphasis on fair play.

Well done to everyone involved.
